Privacy policy
This policy explains what the Guardian app and this website do with information. We wrote it to be read. If anything is unclear, email hello@guardian-app.xyz.
Who we are
Guardian is made by Standard Consumer Software LLC (“we”, “us”). We are the controller of the information described here. You reach us at hello@guardian-app.xyz.
The short version. Guardian automatically creates a guest account so it can manage your saved places, alerts and subscription. Places and names you save, your location when permitted, and notification settings are sent to our servers and linked to that account. We have no ads, do not sell personal information and do not track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
What the app collects, and why
- Your guest account. You can start without entering a name or email address. We assign a random account ID and link your saved places, alert settings, device registration and subscription status to it.
- Your location. If you allow it, the app uses your precise location while you are using it to show nearby incidents. Coordinates are sent with requests to our servers. For nearby notifications, the app also sends your device’s latest location, its accuracy and the observation time, linked to your guest account and device. The latest stored location is updated when a newer one is received. You can withdraw location permission in iPhone Settings.
- Places and people you save. Saved-place labels and any loved-one names you enter, the type of place, precise coordinates and alert radius are stored on your phone and sent to our servers, linked to your guest account. We use them to provide the places and alerts you choose. These are locations you enter, not the live locations of other people. You can remove a saved place in the app; the app sends the removal to our servers when it can connect.
- Addresses you search. When you scan or search an address, the app sends the coordinates of that address to our servers to return what has been reported around it.
- A random device ID and the app version. The app creates a random ID on your phone and sends it with its requests, together with the app version. We use these to keep the service running and to limit abuse. It is not your Apple ID, your name or your advertising ID.
- Subscription information. If you subscribe, Apple takes the payment and we never see your card details. RevenueCat receives purchase and subscription information and an app user ID, which we link to your Guardian account. We use RevenueCat to validate purchases, enable Premium, restore purchases and understand subscription activity through its reporting and analytics.
- Notifications. If you allow them, we store Apple’s push notification token, your device ID, app version and alert preferences against your account so we can send relevant alerts. This includes your selected sensitivity, alert subjects and radii. We also store notification delivery records to operate and troubleshoot alerts. You can turn notifications off in iPhone Settings at any time.
- Clips you choose to send. The camera and microphone are used only when you open Go Live and record. A recording stays on your phone unless you tap Send to Guardian. If you send it, we receive the video and sound, the time and place you recorded it, and your account and device identifiers. Submitted clips are private to our team and service providers; this version does not display them to other users. See the retention section below, or email hello@guardian-app.xyz to request deletion.
What this version does not use
Speech recognition is not used in this version. If we release a feature that uses it, or shows clips to other people, we will ask your permission first and update this policy.
Usage analytics. The app sends usage events to our own servers to help us understand how it is used: which screens are viewed, which features are used, whether set-up is completed and whether a subscription is started. These events are linked to the same random identifier as your Guardian account, together with your app version, device model, iOS version, subscription plan and city. They never include your name, contact details, your exact location or the addresses you save. We use this information to improve the app and to test changes, and we delete it when you delete your account. We do not use advertising, third-party analytics or crash-reporting tools in the app.
Where incident information comes from
The incident reports shown in Guardian come from publicly available sources. That report content is separate from the account, location and other information collected through your use of the app, as described above.
Who we share information with
- Apple, which provides the App Store, payments and the maps in the app.
- RevenueCat, which manages subscriptions and provides purchase reporting and analytics for us.
- Our hosting and infrastructure providers, including Supabase for account authentication and stored data, who process requests and data on our behalf.
- Authorities, only if the law requires it.
We do not sell personal information. Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on the protections the law allows, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
Our legal basis (UK GDPR)
- Your consent for using your location. You give it through the iPhone permission, and you can withdraw it in Settings.
- Providing the service you asked for, for subscriptions and for the requests the app makes.
- Our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and working, and preventing abuse.
How long we keep information
Guest-account records, saved places, alert settings, device registration and the latest device location are retained to provide the service until they are updated, removed or subject to an account-deletion request. Deleting the app does not by itself delete the account or information already stored on our servers.
Unfinished, received and rejected clip uploads are scheduled for deletion after 30 days. Clips approved for use or published may be kept longer while needed for that use. Deletion of stored media is processed separately from removal of the account records.
Account deletion removes the associated places, settings, device locations and notification records from our active account data and starts deletion of the authentication account. Processing by service providers may take additional time. Limited deletion-request and security records may remain to prevent access to a deleted account and meet legal obligations. Apple and RevenueCat may retain purchase records under their own retention policies; deleting a Guardian account does not cancel an Apple subscription.
Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to give you a copy. To request account deletion or exercise these rights, email hello@guardian-app.xyz. We may ask for your Guardian account or device ID and information needed to verify ownership; never send us your password or sign-in tokens. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Children
Guardian is not for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, where needed, tell you in the app.
